PBMs are #OnYourRxSide, Working to Prevent Drug Shortages
As COVID-19 impacts Americans in every region of the country, everyone is concerned about the durability of our healthcare system. Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) are continuing to help prevent and manage drug shortages during the pandemic.
Since January, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been in constant communication with drug manufacturers to evaluate the drug supply.
However, we recognize that this process is largely unseen by the average consumer, which is why PBMs are part of a broad coalition sharing information about drug shortages and policies to avoid them. On March 26, 2020, the coalition sent a letter to Vice President Pence and Congressional leaders, calling for reinforced action to ensure our drug supply chains remain unaffected during this pandemic.
Patients should talk with their doctor about early refills or at-home delivery to ensure they get the prescriptions they need, on time.
This is a stressful, unprecedented time for all of us, but PBMs are working to provide 266 million patients peace of mind through our continued services and tools. For more information, please click here.
