How PBMs are Advocating for Lower Prescription Costs

Share

Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) work tirelessly every day to reduce the cost of prescription drugs. PBMs achieve this while expanding access to safe, reliable, and affordable generic alternatives. Name-brand prescription drugs can be expensive, making it difficult for patients to access them. That is why PBMs work so hard to provide patients with access to generic alternatives and biosimilars.

Generics are copies of brand-name drugs which are more affordable and therefore provide better access for patients. These generics and biosimilars serve the same function in dosage form, safety, strength, quality, and intended use, but at a substantially lower cost.

PBMs increase the use of generic alternatives and biosimilars to give patients more access to affordable prescription medications and, ultimately, better health care. By working hard to improve access to generics, patients and plan sponsors will save money.  In the end, it’s all just one more way that PBMs are #OnYourRxSide.
